Barb, I get stopped out of positions that I would have wanted to hold like NITE even BVSN a few weeks ago... We are talking about the internet sector here. We are not talking about CLX or MYG or PVN.. If I did a scientific analysis of my protective stops it would definitely turn out that I put too many up and would have been better off riding with the wave, but when you weigh the technical position of the stock against its relative performancestrength and the gap is large (i.e. technical rank is 92 and relative performance/strength (according to criteria established by Investor's Business Daily, mine are a bit different, more stringent but still somewhat simialar) is around 90 I'd say there is a reason to exercise caution, if on the other hand a stock like CATP whose still lagging in technical rank, after being so beaten down I'd be a tad less cautious and think there was more upside potential than downside risk. The closer a stock is to its 52 week high the more I'd put in a protective stop, especially if its internet related also. And if the stock has broken out of a long forming base I'd be cautious as well.
