In general,

I wait and see how the market is going to open up. Then focus on any obvious momentum trades, and keep a watchlist of stocks that have histories of good trades on news and keep watching the trades going by during the day to see if the ratio of buys v. sells is one way or the other (picking up or decreasing). Plus, keeping an eye on the spreads and size of trades with the stocks I continuously monitor.

Postion trades, I choose stocks in sectors that are moving like wireless, internet, whatever....that I believe are good for a point, two or more. Or choose stocks I am aware of coming out with news.

And, I really focus on charts after hours..
