Paul,

I've been a little busy lately so I haven't had time to review all the boards.

Glad to see that you continue your efforts to expose posters that present opinions or rumors as truths.

My brief reading of HIA's postings (prior to the bashing back and forth) seemed to indicate that he was misled by what some people are saying.

My understanding of the ID and random number generator is that it is a hardware implementation by Intel for security purposes. The idea is to insure that people making purchases are who they claim. This potentially should make web commerce more acceptable as it will be virtually impossible to make purchases using other people's credit cards.

Intel already announced that it will provide software to turn off access to the serial number.

While it is theoretically possible that, if all of the software and hardware vendors conspire, they could create a situation where a user's ID is captured without their knowledge, I believe that it is highly unlikely. It would not be in their interest.

Remember, some of the biggest proponents of privacy on line are in Silicon Valley and many probably work for Intel and Microsoft.
