>> it is my job

Self-appointed, mind you. In my actual (i.e., paid) job, I am responsible for helping my companies secure statutory protection from frivolous Y2K-related legal actions, so that they can concentrate their time and attention (not to mention huge sums of money) on the real world issues (aka Y2K) that confront them, their customers and suppliers, and society as a whole.

Of course, I also have to deal with an increasing number of requests from local groups and communities for presentations (at absolutely no cost to them -- and of no financial benefit to me whatsoever) on how best to prepare for what ever may be coming down the track. Not doomsaying, not overly alarmist, etc. Just simple, real life prudence. Frankly, it's refreshing to work with such open-minded people.
