Tsunami Wireless Ethernet Bridges Introduced by Glenayre Western Multiplex Family Includes World's First 100BaseT Unlicensed Wireless Bridge WASHINGTON, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to the exponential worldwide growth of data networks and increasing demand for Ethernet connectivity, Glenayre Western Multiplex today introduced Tsunami(TM), the company's new family of wireless Ethernet bridges. Tsunami microwave and millimeter-wave bridges provide 10BaseT (Ethernet) and 100BaseT (Fast Ethernet) point-to-point wireless connections from less than 1 to more than 50 miles. The Tsunami family includes license-free 10BaseT models, licensed 100BaseT models and the world's first license-free 100BaseT wireless bridge. The license-free models enable any user easily to install and operate wireless links with no spectrum licensing barriers, delays or expenses. All Tsunami products provide full bandwidth performance independent of distance. Tsunami bridges provide IP-based wireless extensions and connectivity to Ethernet networks (LANs, MANs, WANs, Intranets, ISPs, etc.) for locations that might be difficult or expensive to reach via wire or fiber. Often these wireless bridges are used in place of leased lines or fiber, eliminating monthly leasing costs and the associated delays of obtaining leased connections. Amir Zoufonoun, general manager of Glenayre Western Multiplex, stated, ''With the explosion of Internet traffic, the advent of new technologies, such as Voice-over-IP, and overall convergence to IP-based networks, the demand for bandwidth at the user location is tremendous. Our mission is to provide affordable, reliable and transparent wireless interconnect solutions to carriers, ISPs and private enterprises to meet these increasing demands.'' Graham Barnes, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Glenayre Western Multiplex, added, ''Voice-over-IP or Internet telephony is just the beginning of the demand for increased bandwidth on Ethernet networks. Emerging applications such as video-over-IP, IP conferencing and IP-over-ATM/SONET are driving the need for high bandwidth, long distance wireless solutions.'' ''A key feature of the Tsunami products is their ability to maintain their bandwidth independent of distance,'' said Barnes. ''Users can now afford high- bandwidth connections to distant campus locations, between remote points-of- presence (POPs) and across fiber rings.'' Tsunami products are currently in field beta tests with production delivery 90 days ARO. New radios in the Tsunami product family will be on display at ComNet/D.C., in Washington, January 26-28 (GWM booth #1075) and at CTIA's Wireless '99, in New Orleans, February 8-10 (GWM booth #4857). Glenayre Western Multiplex, the industry leader in T1/E1 spread spectrum wireless interconnect, provides high-performance unlicensed (LYNX) and licensed (WM-series) digital microwave radios to the worldwide market. GWM supplies systems to wireless service operators, including cellular, PCS, data, and Internet service providers. The company has also served private, industrial, and government users, oil and gas companies, utilities, and railroads for over 19 years.
