Of course, the broad shareholder base didn't exactly help AT&T on the antitrust front. It could be argued we're all better off for that, too. Oddly, it was just announced that TCI is going to deliver @Home here soon, due largely to the AT&T buyout. The article I read gave some hope that the AT&T-owned TCI was actually making some commitment to delivering decent service, we'll see but TCI couldn't get any worse.
