More tips on alerts>> just got alert on TQNT, CMNT has been a very good trade since it appeared on the earnings plays newsletter in late December. If you are interested in tracking your database that, hopefully are full of the earnings plays for the month of January or whatever you might be covering, set up alerts that track news as well as distinguishing changes in price and volume and short term breakouts. I got a nice alert this morning from both CMNT and CATP (which I already own anyhow) and I had one for MMCN, POWI last week.

There are many programs that give you alerts. I use my Telescan's Autoscan and Autorun programs. Autorun searches for any news that came out on your company..whenever I click the icon. That is great for upgrades or other news items. Another thing I do is have the Companies that are potential earnings plays (more so than the watch list ones)put me on their fax lists for their PR newswires or business wires. They usually get faxed to me before they get to your dow jones real time news. A good example of that would be the QWST, VRIO deal last week. I got the fax BEFORE it was on Dow Jones so I was able to get into both stocks at the time.
