Late 1997 I had bet all my savings on MSFT (options) only to see it
drop 50% by early January 1998. That was not a lot of fun.
Fortunately all that stress was worth it when I went out bought
options which traded at 1/8 or 1/4. ---After that--had only
good luck (9 times out of 10).
Accumulated enough to quit working but always fear that I
will blow it all on some risky trade. That is why i don't quit.
I continuously discipline myself into
not risking too much---I have to admit it is
more fun than any casino.
However, I will be careful!!

MSFT invests in NTL of U.K.
Looks like they are still betting on cable companies.
This time they will probably ensure that Sun Microsystems
does not get any of the business without making investments
in cable companies. It looks MSFT software will used to
a greater degree than in the TCI set top boxes.

Now the MSFT chats with AT&T make more sense. They wanted to
chat with the future owners of TCI. Maybe they were trying to
a get bigger piece of the set top boxes giving up some
internet related properties in return.

MSFT does not appear to want to buy a cable company
because it wants to be able to do deals with lots of
cable companies. If they were to buy, other cable cos may
pick SUNW for the software feeling a MSFT threat. It seems
MSFT wants to avoid this perception among the cable cos.
