Richie: I think 0.38 is in the bag. Which of these headlines is most likely on Wednesday morning.

"Compaq reports earnings of.......

....39, 3 cents higher than expectations and 3 cents below last year's 4th Quarter.

....41, 5 cents higher than expectations and 1 cent below last year's 4th Quarter.

....42, 6 cents higher than expectations and level with last year's 4th Quarter.

.....43-46, 7-10 cents higher than expectations and 1-5 cents higher than last year's 4th Quarter."

Richie: IBM sold off because it had had an extraordinary run-up and because of poorer than expected revenues. It does not compare with CPQ's story. However, almost all analysts have reiterated or upgraded IBM since earnings (a couple of minor downgrades). The stock split tomorrow should revive interests.
