I think David Banisar is being way too alarmist.

Encryption related politics has never been rational. I doubt that is going to change any time soon.

The conflicting concerns of law enforcement, terrorism prevention, commerce, privacy advocates, etc. make the whole thing very hard to "decipher". The safest policy has always been to steer clear.

No ID, No money for AMD.
If I am a software co, let say the one who produce $2000 a CD and up.
I would force my customers to use the PIII with the ID. No ID, No software. The software company love this Idea, it will take a while for people to get used to it. Other countries took so much advantage of our system, no more free bee from mow. No ID no Honey.
