Whether or not it was likely Nixon would have prevailed, it certainly was early in the game when he resigned. I think at least partially his decision to resign was in fact based upon some notion of honor, albeit probably a warped one. Now if only Bubba would follow the fine example he set and resign, it would be a great relief to all. JLA

At the time Nixon resigned, his popular support was not exactly overwhelming. Which probably had as much to do with his lack of Republican support in the Senate as the facts of the case.

Would that mean that the Republican senators were not partisan?
