Sorry for raining on the parade, but I hate this "pre-announcement" crap and hypothetical musings by random analysts on the Street.

This kind of thing gets the stock running ahead of itself (which ain't so bad for your trading shares), but it sets up the stock for random (hard) corrections as folks assume that a Portal announcement leads to a rollout in, like, two weeks or something.

From the Dow Jones:
Now, company watchers are expecting that Checkfree will announce the fruit of those talks is a deal with either Yahoo! or AOL, said Pacific Growth Equities analyst Steve Olson.

While Olson "wouldn't rule out" a deal being announced in the next several days, he said an agreement could take longer to produce.

Well, Olson also didn't rule out CF earning $80 million bucks this quarter, talking two by fours, or lobsters running rampant down the hallways outside the CEO's office...And by the way, who are these "company watcher" folks, and when did they join the party?

Not complaining (always like a nice runup in price), but folks should keep their expectations rational...

RK

PS. Dow Jones's story about what was NOT expressly ruled out reminds me of a great scene on a train in the movie "How to get Ahead in Advertising" (a great black comedy, if anyone's interested. Not the greatest ending, but very, very funny).
