I use DLJ Direct. You don't hear much about them, but they have an easy interface on AOL (and a pretty good one on the Net)--not a tremendous amount of charts and stuff, but there is plenty of that available elsewhere.

They have only ()*^^(%^ me once--and that was in a very volatile market situation, and I can't really blame them. They are not that responsive on the phone (10-15 minutes) or on line (3 days), but I have never had any problems placing an order or getting an execution with them--their system is generally always up.

Hey Matt....

I use AG Edwards! Been with them since 1992 - they were just named #1 Full Service Broker by Smartmoney Mag...for what that's worth!!!

As I mentioned earlier, I know when I place an order that it gets filled in my favor because I'm on the phone with a live person when I place the order while using RTQ's to verify the price I am being quoted by AGE....I know many will balk at the high commission rates but I get a discount and like I said - I'd be pretty pissed if I wanted in (PRFM) this morning and didn't get filled!!!

I've also received a good education about options, etc. which is where the "real" money is!!! I'm still a novice in my eyes and have never traded options, but I'm looking to try covered calls in my IRA, etc. A good friend of mine (who helped me start investing and is an options expert) has shown me unbelievable returns when using options to leverage a stock purchase!! It's my security blanket to know my broker will teach me the ropes while helping me (and him) make money!!! I think I am also blessed with a great broker!!!

I know the discounters have cheap trades, etc. but it only takes 1 mistake to cost you BIG TIME - I've heard many stories on these threads to support that - it amazes me that people keep going back for more (problems).

Matt, I'm 37 now and didn't start investing til I was 30 - you are so far ahead that I envy you and only wish I had to guidance at your age to start investing.

dave!
