A plea for Netscape help:

I can't find any address any more at netscape for something like techsupport@netscape.com. They no longer answer the info@ traditional address.

I am trying to find out how to disable all that netcenter stuff that is making my email a miserable experience. I just want to take two secs to see what I have coming in? No good, have to wait for the overloaded netcenter to download all kinds of crap to me to present on the first page before I can see my email.

There's no place to complain about this to them any more. No more @feedback link. No evidence of any support other than for pay plans and generic FAQs.

So how about it? How to disable that Netscape Netcenter (or whatever it's called) page download that sometimes makes my email time out, it takes so long? I just want to see my subject lines and sign off, usually.

Sal remembers quite correctly the situation a year ago or so:

My understanding was that NeoMagic wouldn't release specs or anything and wasn't allowing for Linux drivers

Yup, but you see, they do have to provide drivers for their chips
for W95/98, right? So these drivers can be disassembled and
reverse engineered... they are already releasing the
specs, only not in human-readable form. It's a stupid loss of
time to have to disassemble a neomagic w98 driver in order to
figure out the specs, but obviously you can do it.

Then I think someone signed them an ND and wrote a driver for XFree,
which was then distributed as binary. XFree wouldn't distribute it
themselves, since it wasn't open source. Now I don't know what
happened, but you do get NeoM drivers with XFree, and I think
you do get source for them. Can check if you want to, but
the take home is that the game is over and Neomagic is fully
supported under XFree. AcceleratedX, of course, has had NM
support like forever, but then it's $$$.
