Gerold Klauer: Look For Oversold Values In Volatile Market

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--There are values to be found among U.S. stocks, even amid the global uncertainty created by troubles in emerging markets like Brazil, said Gerold Klauer, co-chairman of Gerard Klauer Mattison.Still, "it depends on what stock you're looking at," he said in an interview with CNBC.

Klauer recommended that investors hold out for stocks that they believe are likely to "meet or beat expectations," but may have sold off during recent market turmoil.

For his part, the co-chairman said he favors mid- and small-capitalization stocks, whose day he believes is due once the larger stocks begin to top out.

Klauer also said he likes reliable marquee names like Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) as a safer way of playing the high technology sector.

Thanks for that post -- esp. the reference to the accounting term -- "matching concept." The term is used in my work in a much narrower sense. Now I know where the original term comes from -- cool.

With many many acquisitions for csco in 98, it will very likely be at the top of the SEC list. Possible that CSCO may indicate this issue in the next earnings release. One company that got hit a few months ago had its stock price cut by more than 30%. CSCO can be next, all imo.
And look at today's trend and volume, smart money is getting out.

Big issue. A firm can write off R&D it performs. Why cannot an acquirer write off capitalized R&D? If SEC and FASB want to cripple American hi-tech, they can keep up this travesty, but Congress will have to kick them in the teeth when they through spying on Bill's indoor sports.
