Fascinating article. Ordinarly, one would think that the economic conditions described would be good for small businesses and entrepeneurs, because start-up costs are low. Large businesses might have a difficult time retaining employees, who might want to start businesses for themselves. Labor might have an edge in bargaining. Women might have more political power, because they would find it easier to become financially independent. In other words, it would have political consequences that were good for the individual. Maybe not a good time to be a large land owner or a bank owner.
