Let's assume there is a press conference tomorrow on AV, cc on earnings on Wednesday and an analysts meeting on Friday to discuss overall strategies for CPQ. What is your take on the way the stock price is likely to behave, assuming the overall market is neutral?

Stuart.

Victor. Re: "most analysts are already positive towards COMPAQ" According to one site, the current mix of analysts recommendations for cpq and Dell (in that order) are:

Strong buy: 18 (CPQ), 12 (Dell)
Moderate Buy: 8, 9
Hold: 9, 10

There is some room for improvement.

HL

Victor,

I would not think that Pfieffer and other senior management would trek all the way to NYC to hold a press conference to announce nothing. These guys are very savvy and they know what Wall Street expects with this type of show. Earl Mason CFO is always complimented by the way he keeps everyone informed. I think they have just begin to realize the potential of AltaVista. The $20 plus billion in revenue gives them, and others, tremendous advantage in the net situation. As the sleeping giants get into the game, the smaller players will go away or be acquired. The sleeping giants would be CPQ, Walmart, Disney, TimeWarner etc.

I think you have analize the stock situation very accurate. I really believe, IMO, we may be very surprised just where this company can go in the next 12-18 months.
