Cabletron Systems Hires Merrill Lynch To Find Buyer (CS) - Report

(NewsTraders.com)-- Cabletron Systems (CS) has hired Merrill Lynch (MER) to find a buyer for the No. 4
computer networking company, according to the New York Post.

Highlights:

- A source told the Post that the company is hoping to fetch $2.5 billion, or a 66% premium to its current
market value.

- Speculation that the company would make a move caught fire the past week after Tucker Anthony
analyst William Becklean predicted Cabletron would be acquired within five years. Cableton's co-founder
and CEO Craig Benson responded by telling the Boston Globe that the company wasn't for sale.

- Officials at both companies declined to comment on any possible deal.
