AFTER THE BELL-Tellabs, Yahoo!, IBM, Dell higher

NEW YORK, Jan 25 (Reuters) - Shares of technology stocks moved higher in after-hours on Monday, according to traders, with Tellabs Inc. (Nasdaq:TLAB - news) getting a boost after the company posted fourth-quarter profits that beat Wall Street forecasts.

Tellabs shares moved as high as 85-3/8, traders said. The move came after the Lisle, Ill.-based company posted fourth-quarter earnings per share of $0.62, beating its estimate of $0.59 a share, according to First Call.

Tellabs shares had closed up 4-5/16 at 83-15/16 on Nasdaq ahead of the earnings report.

USWeb (Nasdaq:USWB - news) edged slightly higher in after-hours trading after its fourth quarter earnings report. The stock moved up to 30, traders said, just up from its close at 29-3/4 at the Nasdaq.

USWeb posted a profit of $0.07 a share before non-cash and merger-related charges, which just beat Wall Street's forecast of $0.06 a share, according to First Call.

Other technology stocks also moved higher. Technology stocks had been the focus of most of the buying on Monday, with the Nasdaq Composite closing up 30 points, or 1.3 percent, beating the gains of the Dow industrials and the Standard & Poor's 500 index on a percent basis.

Dell Computer Corp. (Nasdaq:DELL - news) moved up to 85-1/4 in after- hours trade, topping its close on the New York Stock Exchange at 84-7/8.

Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO - news) also moved higher, rising to 313-1/2 from its Nasdaq close of 312, up 26.

Shares of International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM - news) continued to rebound in after-hour trading with shares of Big Blue moving up to 182, up 1-1/16 from its NYSE close.

IBM shares were battered early in the session and spent most of the day in the negative column, with the losses reaching to more than 6 points at one point, until shares reversed in afternoon trading on renewed speculation IBM would split its stock.

IBM shares erased the losses and moved higher, closing up 1-3/16 at 180-15/16 on the NYSE.

The NYSE said 1,217,000 shares crossed in session one of after-hours trade. In session two, 4,100,200 shares crossed.
