AT&T to unveil integrated voice, data network (read: using ASND/LU!!) Monday January 25, 7:53 pm Eastern Time NEW YORK, Jan 25 (Reuters) - AT&T Corp. (NYSE:T - news), the No. 1 U.S. long distance company, will unveil on Tuesday its long-awaited Integrated Network Connect (INC) network, which will allow customers to send voice and data traffic on one, blended network, industry sources said. The network will allow customers to consolidate voice traffic, as well as several high-speed data transmission services such as ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) and frame relay onto one service, analysts and industry sources said. The new service is expected to be outlined on Tuesday at ComNet '99, a communications industry trade show in Washington, D.C. Bob Annunziata, president, AT&T Business Services, will hold a press conference on Tuesday at the trade show to announce ''new business services that address the explosive demand for data and IP (Internet protocol) networking,'' AT&T said. AT&T declined additional comment. The INC network would follow moves by AT&T rivals MCI WorldCom Inc. (Nasdaq:WCOM - news) and Sprint Corp. (NYSE:FON - news), which have already outlined plans for integrated networks. Some analysts said MCI WorldCom and the Netherlands' Equant NV (NYSE:ENT - news), which also operates a massive data network, are AT&T's biggest threat since they provide integrated services internationally. ''AT&T is hearing all the time from its customers about what MCI and Equant are offering. It is imperative that they throw their hat into the ring,'' said Jeffrey Kagan, an independent telecommunications analyst. Separately, AT&T executives said in a conference call on Monday that the company will announce in 1999 new products that offer discounts for customers who buy packages of services, such as long distance, wireless and local phone service. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More Quotes and News: AT&T Corp (NYSE:T - news) Equant NV (NYSE:ENT - news) MCI WorldCom Inc (Nasdaq:WCOM - news) Sprint Corp (NYSE:FON - news) Related News Categories: US Market News -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Help -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright © 1999 Reuters Limited.
