Pruguy,

Otherwise, the Equitable Bldg is an odd non-WS place to hold the meeting !

As well, if I remember correctly isn't the Equitable Building also the world headwuarters for Paine Weber ???

If so, what is PW's past relationship to CPQ ??

Someone posted a while back that cpq would be forming an internet company/division and spinning off 20%. I believe this was in an article. This sounds consistent with the cpq only press conference. It also seems to strike a balance between letting AV go to early and not realising enough return and holding onto a piece that doesn't fit in with hardware and services company.

I could imagine them spinning off 20% and then using the value of the AV stock to make further acquisitions at no real expense to cpq.

timing of spinoff av ameliorates ho hum earnings. prediction: they beat estimates by a penny and stock price falls a bit. already had run-up recently. agree with earlier poster, why spin av...don't need cash...let it ride or at least retain a large portion ownership
