Hyundai Elecsays NEC patent dispute ends
SEOUL, Jan 25 (Reuters) - South Korea's Hyundai Electronics Industries Co said on Monday it has agreed with Japan's NEC Corp to end a patent dispute and drop mutual lawsuits.

NEC filed lawsuits with a U.S. court in late 1997 against Hyundai over seven different semiconductor production technology patents while Hyundai had later filed counter suits.

Hyundai said in a statement the two companies have agreed to allow each other to use their patent rights, which it said would contribute to saving a huge amount of royalty payments.

The statement said it won one of the seven lawsuits in December and that trial had been under way in a U.S. court over the remaining six issues.
