Pigboy, re:OT - Dual Monitors

I have been running dual monitors for a year now with Win98. It works with less hassle (now) than you're assuming. Write me via "private message" and I'll help you get set up :)

Pigboy,

Re: Lack of IRQ's

If you are running low on IRQ's or slots, suggest you try an add-on card. For example, I added a Turbocom serial card in my ISA slot that gives me two high-speed serial ports which are connected to an ISDN connection AND a 56k connection. If you previously had a PCI internal modem, this can free up a slot. Added card has options built-in to avoid any IRQ conflicts. Card only costs $100 and is much cheaper than monitor.

pigboy,

good luck finding one...I've been thinking about doing multi monitor myself...but with 19in monitors as cheap as they are ($366 is the cheapest listed on pricewatch),it doesn't make a lot of sense...unless of course you already have the monitors and video cards...

concerning freeing up IRQ's: if you're not comfortable changing things in BIOS, then don't do it. Messing with comm ports and not knowing what you're doing CAN mess up your modem settings. Then you couldn't flame me for messing up your computer : )

Good Luck...

Pigboy RE: - Your question on multi monitor cards...

You are asking for one card to give you two monitor capability in an AGP port with video out. Here it is, direct from the Appian website I had mentioned in my earlier post to you. This card has 4mb per monitor, they also offer an 8mb/monitor card called the Jeronimo Pro...

John

PS - By the way, Dell uses the Jeronimo Pro in their workstation line. STB builds a multi monitor card called the MVP that is used in Compaq's workstation line. You can get info on it at www.stb.com.

Cutting Edge Technology
The Appian Duet is the first dual graphics card available that supports
the use of dual monitors with a single graphics chip for either a PCI or
AGP slot, thereby increasing the speed with which data can be
manipulated across the desktop. The Appian Duet will appeal to a
wide variety of general computer users as well as financial traders,
CAD users, and graphics designers who are seeking a competitively
priced dual monitor graphics cards that provides top performance at
common business resolutions (800 x 600 at 24 bpp, 1024 x 768 at 16
bpp or 1280 x 1024 at 8bpp).

Dual Monitor Support in One Slot
In one PCI or AGP bus, you can now run two monitors and input/output
video. That leaves additional slots open for other important
expansions such as sound, network, and SCSI cards.

Zoom-In and Cut & Paste Highly Detailed Images
Using the Duet's exclusive zoom-in monitor feature, you can view on a
second monitor a detailed portion of the image that is displayed on
your first monitor.

The Best Desktop Management Software
Appian Graphics' patented HydraVision™ helps you realize true
productivity by managing increased information on your monitors.

View Your Monitor Display on TV
The Duet's unique video in/out capability lets you view your computer
desktop on your TV. Plus the optional Appian TV Tuner provides a
complete video overlay solution, including the ability to select and
display TV channels on your monitor.
