No. Jini will run top of any Java Virtual Machine (JVM -- a software or virtual implementation of a stack-based computer architecture, you can think of it as an interpreter).

However, it is my opinion that if Insignia's claims for JENE are accurate, then a PDA running on top of JENE will suffer less from periodic poor performance (due to garbage collection improvements) and will run faster (due to built-in JIT compiler).

Comments regarding Sun's announcement? Would devices such as PDA's still require a product like JENE to utilize the services of Jini?
