Tim,

Gangasagar is in the delta of the river Ganges where it meets the Indian Ocean in the Bay of Bengal (hence the name, Ganga = Ganges and Sagar = Ocean in Bengali). It is in the Southernmost tip of the Eastern Ganges basin in the state of West Bengal. It is a famous Hindu pilgrimage place but not a tourist attraction outside of that. However, even for a non-believer like me, the assembly of Indian godmen (sadhus) of all sects is often an interesting thing to witness. Gives you a view of the so-called old India (as distinct from the cellphone-brandishing-and-internet-loving new India which I guess I would be considered a part of).

PS: While nostalgia is no longer what it used to be in the past, this post did make me nostalgic to an extent.
