Paul,

3DLabs has not shipped the Permedia 3 on schedule. I suspect that the problem lies with their manufacturing partner, STM. Hell, they couldn't make Cyrix processors, so I doubt they could yield an 8 million transistor graphics chip. Also, heat is probably a big issue. I told them (Osman Kent; CEO) to use UMC and their 0.18u process. UMC got S3's latest chip working on first silicon in eight weeks. If the Permedia 3 debuts before the Voodoo 3, they will still have a small market window to sell it into the consumer market. Otherwise, it will still have a good lifespan in the WindowsNT/OpenGL workstation market (entry level). On the high end, 3DLabs Oxygen boards (using dual gamma geometry processors and huge amounts of texture memory) are being designed in by major OEMs.
