Re: "EEPROM's can normally be programmed multiple times. On/off/on/off"

I believe it was called an EPROM not an EEPROM. Not being accessable to UV light, you could just write all 1s to it and never be able to clear it again (or is it all 0s?).

If MSFT says you have to turn it on what can you do?

Wintel again! Old monopoly habits never die. Just think of it, the company never has to worry about theft of its OS again thanks to Intel.

Next thing Intel needs is a way to blow out your chip with a signal over the internet. Just think of the possibilities. Of course this would require a new level of the partnership between the two companies.

For example: Intel has decided to terminate your license to use its chip. Please consult your licensing agreement and note that users who are not truly appreciative of Intel's efforts and have expressed criticism of the company's id system will have their id's permanently turned off. We are not responsible for any actions taken by third parties that may require this id number to be activated for the proper operation of their software. Have a good day.
