Veterans on the thread may remember that a few months ago I posted a UK news item concerning a computer retail chain - Dixons - which was offering free Internet access with every computer sold and I mentioned that this might become standard procedure among competitors. Today, Dixons announced that in the first four months of the scheme 1 million had signed up for the service. On a pro rata basis that would be 5 million in US terms and given that the UK is lagging the US in internet use, perhaps the US take-up would be greater.
