Tony B,

Have you seen the recent initiatives by BEL/AOL and SBC? Aggressive pricing, targeted primarily at the residential market to counter the cable companies. I agree with you on local caching, and am very interested in Inktomi, Novell and others who are making this a reality. However there are many other issues that make cable modems an unattractive long term solution as a shared bandwidth (i.e. security, et. al.) versus the telcos, particularly as we move towards FTTC, FTTB in the future. Dale McCourt at RCN and others are making this a reality with MDUs, and over time we will see more of these solutions to the residential neighborhoods over copper. BTW, how many cable users are getting 33.6? Kind of like seeing 56 Kbps on my v.90 at home. Applications that require 33.6 are in reality not too commonplace. But again, just my opinion as well.
