IDT'S 32-bit RISController Microprocessor Earns Editor's Choice Award
Microprocessor Report Names IDT's RC32364 Best Embedded Processor for Price/Performance
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 26, 1999--IDT (Nasdaq:IDTI - news), a leading manufacturer of RISC microprocessors, today announced it has received the Microprocessor Report Editor's Choice Award for Best Embedded Price/Performance.
With its Editor's Choice Awards, Microprocessor Report recognizes the top microprocessors of the past year, based on price, performance, a strong feature set and the processor's ability to meet customer needs. This year, IDT's RC32364(tm) was selected to receive the Editor's Choice recognition. Introduced in June 1998, this 32-bit RISController(tm) microprocessor broke through the 10 cents/MIPS barrier, delivering unprecedented price/performance for microprocessors.
''Because of its efficient design, top-notch integer performance and aggressive take-notice pricing, IDT's RC32364 earns this coveted Editor's Choice Award,'' said Jim Turley, senior editor at Microprocessor Report. ''IDT's new chip lays the groundwork for a range of integrated processors aimed at telecom and networking applications.''
''We are honored Microprocessor Report has recognized the superior price/performance of our RC32364 with this prestigious award,'' said Nick Kucharewski, vice president of IDT's microprocessor division. ''When developing this processor, our goal was to provide features previously found only in 64-bit microprocessors with the cost and power consumption advantages of 32-bit architectures. Winning this award validates IDT's ongoing efforts to deliver key architecture extensions and innovative implementations of the MIPS architecture to service a wide range of embedded applications.''
RC32364 -- The Whole Product Solution
Fabricated on IDT's ''performance-tuned'' 0.30-micron CMOS line, the 133-MHz RC32364 achieves 175-Dhrystone MIPS performance and 67 million multiply-accumulate operations per second (MACs/sec). IDT's RC32364 implements a large and efficient two-way associative lockable cache memory; a highly flexible 64-bit-compatible memory management unit (MMU) with a full, 32-page translation lookaside buffer (TLB) for fast virtual-to-physical address decoding; and a low-cost, flexible external bus. The bus interface runs at a fraction of the pipeline rate, is programmable for 8-, 16- and 32-bit-wide memory and I/O regions, and supports single-data or burst transactions.
Additionally, the low-power operation of the RC32364 device results in typical power consumption of 650 mW for the 100-MHz version and 850 mW for the 133-MHz version; standby power consumption is less than 20 mW.
World-Class RISController Series of Embedded Microprocessors
Offering a wide range of software-compatible, price/performance choices, IDT has optimized the designs of its high-performance microprocessors for use in an assortment of embedded communications applications, including internetworking, multimedia, datacom and telecom products. Also, superior price/performance, innovative architecture and comprehensive tools support have made the IDT RISController series the standard for a number of digital consumer products for leading companies.
