3Com Delivers High-Speed DSL Modems to National Service
Provider; Flashcom Selects 3Com as DSL CPE Provider
BW - 07:31 a.m. Jan 26, 1999 Eastern

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 26, 1999--3Com Corporation
(Nasdaq:COMS) today joined with Flashcom, Inc., a premier digital service provider, to
significantly increase access to DSL (digital subscriber line) connections across the
country.

Flashcom has chosen 3Com's line of DSL modems, including 3Com's newest SDSL
(symmetric DSL) modem, to give high-speed access to thousands of Flashcom users
nationwide.

"This key relationship typifies 3Com's commitment and ability to bring DSL solutions to
market as quickly as possible," said Al Brisard, director, marketing and business
development, 3Com Corporation. "Flashcom will be able to reach more customers than
ever before due to 3Com's extensive channel reach, speeding nationwide DSL
deployment."

Today, SDSL enables thousands of small-to-medium-sized businesses to access
bandwidth-intensive applications -- including file transfers, intranet and Internet access,
multimedia applications, as well as data warehouse queries -- with speeds similar to
corporate local-area networks.

3Com's SDSL modem will provide Flashcom customers dedicated, completely digital,
full-duplex throughput at high speeds -- 27 times faster than 56Kbps analog modems
when connected at its maximum -- using ordinary copper telephone lines. Flashcom's
prices for this new digital service start at only $79 per month for unlimited use with
Internet access.

Flashcom users will also enjoy "always-on" connections to the Internet or the office that
are faster than traditional analog dial-ups, easier to use than ISDN and more affordable
than today's T-1 or fractional T-1 alternatives.

Flashcom is the nation's largest DSL-exclusive supplier, supplying service to thousands
of businesses and power users in Northern and Southern California, Massachusetts,
New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, New Hampshire, Maryland,
Texas, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Flashcom maintains a National Digital Network
that was designed exclusively for DSL and provides private, secure connections between
sites without using the Internet.

"Focusing exclusively on DSL technology has enabled Flashcom to bring our customers
the finest high-speed experience, knowledge and support available -- including a variety
of DSL solutions," said Brad Sachs, president, Flashcom, Inc. "We selected 3Com's
DSL modems based on the company's reputation for superior service, support and
technology. Being able to offer these new DSL products gives Flashcom a huge
advantage. We look forward to working with future DSL products from 3Com as they
are released."
