Take Your Money and Run!

While CPQ has resolved major inventory control problems, it's recent push into the retail market, and assault against white box OEM's is being done at the expense of high end business customers. This Altavista IPO is a transparent gimmick that will add little value to this 85 Billion dollar market capped company. Xmas is the last good quarter you'll see for a long time. DELL has made major inroads into the high end business market WITHOUT compromising their retail customers and white box customers, and that is why DELL will continue to trade at higher multiples. I love Compaq/Digital, but this stock has already run on far more hot air than it deserves. I've been here since the mid 20's when their inventory problems were being cleaned up. I stayed during their wonderful Xmas retail initiative, but I'm looking for the exits as business customers and VAR's grow more and more displeased with the eroding quality and profit margins of Compaqs products and services. Good Luck to all you Longs, but Newbies should not look at CPQ as just another InterNet play; it's simply too big and complicated a story for that sort of nonsense.
