SOUTHWICK, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 26, 1999--The WGBH Educational Foundation has chosen the COMARK Division of THOMCAST Communications, Inc. as its digital television supplier. WGBH has purchased a complete digital television package from COMARK, including DiviCom encoders, digital STLs from the MRC division of California Microwave, COMARK transmitters, as well as integration, installation, and project management.

WGBH serves the sixth largest television market in the U.S., and is the originator of such nationally televised PBS programs such as "Frontline", "NOVA", "The American Experience", "This Old House", "Mobile Masterpiece Theatre", "Mystery", and the animated children's series, "Arthur". WGBH is widely recognized as a leading force in American public television.

The COMARK Division of THOMCAST Communications, Inc., was awarded its latest contract from WGBH in November 1998 for digital television packages for its stations in Boston, WGBH/WGBX, and Springfield, MA., WGBY. The package included two COMARK solid-state transmitters, as well as an Advantage Digital transmitter. According to David MacCarn, Chief Technologist for WGBH, COMARK was chosen as their supplier for its complete digital package approach. "Not only are we pleased that the COMARK Division is a Massachusetts manufacturer, but THOMCAST Communications, Inc., was the only vendor who offered us one-stop shopping for our broadcasting needs. We were able to look to the COMARK Division, and its CDS unit, for transmitters, encoders, microwave links, and project management", says MacCarn.

Commenting on the WGBH purchase, Mark Richer, Vice President and General Manager of CDS, said "Of course, we are extremely excited for the opportunity to work with an innovative leader in public television such as WGBH. We look forward to providing a complete digital package to WGBH, as well as assisting them in developing new services for their communities."

The THOMCAST Communications, Inc., COMARK Division, is an Emmy award winner and a leading supplier of high power UHF and VHF television transmitters for both analog and digital technologies. COMARK provides broadcasters with Complete Digital Solutions through its CDS unit, which specializes in consulting, project management, systems design and integration, and DTV products.

On January 1, 1999, COMARK Communications, Inc., and COMWAVE merged to form THOMCAST Communications, Inc. Both COMARK and COMWAVE have been operating as separate companies owned by THOMCAST for several years. THOMCAST is the largest terrestrial broadcasting product and service organization in the world.

Billy,..Big NEWS!!

How close are they working with MSFT??...think again.
You would think that after impressing Big Bill last year at WinHEC they'd be in his camp?...NOT!

Try this...goto c-cube.com and try listening to the call via Media Player?

You'll get:
"File compression not supported. Cannot locate the requested Microsoft NetShow(TM) Player with RealVideo(R) decoder. (Error=80004005)

File compression not supported. Cannot locate the requested Microsoft NetShow(TM) Player with RealVideo(R) decoder. (Error=80004005)

No combination of filters could be found to render the stream. (Error=80040218"

So sad..they're betting on Real Audio...and not Bill.
Maybe Alex got some shares of that IPO too?
