Enjoy your posts, Arthur. Five years ago, a client came to me and said he was dissatisfied with the performance of his investment portfolio. Was thoroughly embarrased about being on the wrong side of cocktail conversation when it came to discussion about the market. Said he was getting only about 5.5% return on his investment while the market seemed to be doing better. He showed me his Charles Schwab statement. Sure enough, it was all in money market funds - for two years! Told him what to do, then held his hand while he picked up the phone in my office and put it all in Dell. Still has it today as the only investment in his account. Why work when you can own Dell? By the way, I don't let tax ramifications drive my investment decisions, either. Seen too many cases where gains have been vaporized while waiting to qualify for long term capital gain treatment. But of course, Dell is probably one of the notable exceptions IMO.
