I don't know what was said at the conference, I did see EP on CNBC.

On the assumption that this whole thing is not just for the $2 billion raised by the IPO, I think this is the most likley scenario:

An all-powerful Alta Vista line up will be assembled: massive top line content, No.1 e-mail and IM from MSN, reformed and beefed up shopping.com - massively increased users of AV, perhaps a 200% increase between now and then.

The Street will be buzzing with excitement. Institutions will want in. It will be the Rolls Royce of Internet plays.

Holders of CPQ at a future specified date will receive a small number of "free shares" which may be linked to the number they buy at the IPO price. The number they can buy before the IPO will be very restricted. CPQ will retain 33 1/3%. The share price will go up 200% on the opening day.

All of this will add a premium to COMPAQ's normal p/e ratio. We may see it in excess of 30 with respect to forward earnings at some point in the year.

My target for $75 in August, 1999 is safe, as is my $100 and stock split for January, 2000.
