(COMTEX) B: NBase-Xyplex's New Gigabit Routing Switch Brings Hardware
B: NBase-Xyplex's New Gigabit Routing Switch Brings Hardware-Based IP Routing
to the Enterprise

WASHINGTON (Jan. 26) BUSINESS WIRE -Jan. 26, 1999-- New Switch Lowers
the Cost of IP Routing in Gigabit Ethernet, ATM and

Long-distance Fiber Applications

NBase-Xyplex, a division of MRV Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRVC),
today launched the GFS3012 Switch Router. This Gigabit switch supports
IP routing along with 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet and long distance fiber
connections for building MAN's, LAN's and campus networks. IP routing
in the switch allows network managers to segment and secure their
networks using existing IP infrastructure, protecting their investment
and increasing bandwidth at a fraction of the cost of traditional
routing.

Ideal for campus and enterprise wiring closets and backbones, the
switch uses OSPF and RIP to insure compatibility with existing LAN
infrastructures. It also has a number of features that maximize
reliability, including redundant power and the ability to send a
maintenance email, based on preset network thresholds. For networks
with requirements for high availability and extensive security, the
switchover and MAC address-based vlans.

The three-slot, modular GFS3012 supports up to 10-Gigabit ports or 2
Gigabit ports with 32 ports of 10/100Mbps. Other combinations of port
densities are possible to meet most design requirements. The
hardware-based IP routing with support for OSPF, RIP, BOOTP/DHCP, Proxy
ARP and other protocols provides network managers with a
cost-effective, high-bandwidth solution for backbone and closet
applications.

The GFS3012 also has a unique module that combines 4 Gigabit Ethernet
data streams onto one fiber for transmission up to 50 kilometers. This
Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM) feature provides interswitch links of
up to 4 Gigabits in bandwidth. Using WDM between buildings, network
managers can insure bandwidth availability for all users regardless of
their location in the Metropolitan Area Network.

The GFS3012 Switch Router will ship in February 1999, with a list price
of $7,995. Other modules available for the GFS are a 16 port UTP
module, an 8 port 100Mbps fiber optic module with a 110 kilometer link
distance, a 4 port Gigabit module with a 70 kilometer link distance, as
well as a 4 Gigabit , 50kilometer Wave Division Multiplexing module.

With a track record of several industry firsts, including the first
10/100 autosensing switch, the first Gigabit Ethernet networks and the
first multi-protocol access server, NBase-Xyplex is continuing to build
on its commitment to smarter networks. Through an intuitive vision, and
a passionate commitment to provide customized and comprehensive
enhancement capabilities, NBase-Xyplex possesses a full complement of
fiber driven switches, routers and access server products that take
networks farther and go faster than ever before. With outstanding
manufacturing capabilities, global service & support and strong channel
relationships, NBase-Xyplex offers a bright new world of unlimited
connectivity providing leadership in networking for the next
millennium.

Sector,
Wonderfully simple explanation. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Now if only I could get those shares back.

I'm really batting 1000 (ha,ha) today. Got a little too anxious and put in a stop loss on all my UNPH at 77 1/8 and of course the MM's dipped down and took it at 77 before it continued to run all the way to 83. Oh well, it's just money, right signist?

By the way, John, I have a story of how a relative in-law of my wife's lost a fortune which one of these days I'll put in writing and PM to you and anyone else who might want to know about someone whose pain will make yours seem mild.(How's that for a run-on sentence. My wife, the English teacher, would have a cow if she saw it.) I don't think it would be appropriate to post it since you never know where it might end up and I wouldn't want to cause him anymore pain.

Cheers,

Bob

...and then the flood ;-), looks as if the 'low profile' has had a definite purpose besides that forbidding scenario spread by the disingenuous & inflationary claims made by mr. pink. Witness the transformation of our company into the global leadership position in networking convergence. MRV, despite the shareholder pain & disbelief encountered over the last 6 months has engineered & acquired the components necessary to become a truly world class company. Successfully navigating a hazardous & sceptic infested swamp of disbelievers, MRV has effectively left the 'big fish' in its technological wake. These new products & investments substantially reflect the promises voiced by management & effectively echo the mantra of 'passionate commitment', 'outstanding manufacturing capabilities', 'bright new world of unlimited connectivity',& 'leadership in networking for the next millennium'. Investments at current levels should pay substantial dividends.;-)
