I am concluding that CPQ has very good earnings. Will surprise on the upside. They announced AV today to draw attention to themselves in a big way before tomorrow's good news. I was going to sell some trading shares this AM but will wait for tomorrow afterall. I still am skeptical about direct benefits to us from the AV plans. Stuart.

Michael: I really think that they did the AV conference today for the following reasons - 1) They were going to do it last Monday (remember?) but it got "postponed" so they obviously had already planned to make it a separate event from earnings and cc. 2) Rumors about "cooled talks" with TWX were creating negative speculation. BTW, I now think that they postponed the original conference because they thought they might be able to add the TWX content deal to the story, but it didn't work out. Looks like the "content" provider is still up for grabs. 3) With all these confusing rumors swirling around, it looked liked CPQ didn't know what is was doing - bad PR. They had to clean it up fast. 4) They didn't want this great story to get "lost" in the earnings news. K

I have similar trepidations about this announcement on day prior to earnings. Could CPQ be trying to prop up a less than sterling earnings announcement? Please tell me I'm wrong. <<<Am not just sure or comfortable as to the timing and need for this announcement today and without important specifics. Though during various interviews today EP never even slightly alluded to any shortfall for tomorrow's earnings release. Somewhat confused unless EP's announcement-announcement-meeting is meant to boost CPQ above 60 for a possible split.>>>
