<<The best defense is an informed population.>> Depends, as in the atomic age, having the ability to blow something up is incrementally aligned with trusting the button pushers to know the standards, practices, and procedures that authorize the push of a button; even more importantly that they have ethics, principles, and personal accountability to restrain them in the face of a moral dilema. Elvis came along and his performance was so charming that informed people were willing to excuse his behavior no matter what. In addition they would gladly sacrifice friends and family to be included in his fanfair. He's in the white house now pushing the buttons. Anybody want to rock around the block?
