Actually I used to do that when I was a kid on occasion. But it was really to risky in suburban NJ. What I did more often was find a spot with a big fish and feed it salmon eggs for a week or so prior to opening day. Then stake out my position real early and at the open throw out a salmon egg with a hook in it this time. What sportsman we little brats were.
