You mean you didn't go long TLAB when it was at $31 in September like I told you??? I screamed at you guys to buy! but only jhg listened (I nominated him for honorary cathood, but I need to hear from Tigerpaw, Nick and other members of the gang before the vote goes through). I guess you guys don't like to be seen talking to stray pussycats.

Okay MSFT: sure got the brand and the lock on the market. The problem that I see for MSFT is that it is the market, and so earnings cannot grow faster than its markets overall. That's why I like to make my investments in smaller companies that can challenge for the lead (like DELL vs. CPQ a few years ago). Thew second problem I see is that the DOJ has MSFT walking on eggshells. That means it is unlikely to launch a major initiative into something new until the Feds calm down. Actually, the big upside that I see is if MSFT is broken up into a number of smaller companies. Look at the value unleashed to T shareholders with the LU spinoff. Look at the value of the ATI spinoff!

My bottom line: I like the buy and hold philosophy in tech stocks. The leaders are appealing in explosively growing markets (like CSCO in the network hardware group and AOL in the internet portal group), and the strong rivals for leadership rapidly growing markets (like DELL in computers). I also like strong niche players like VTSS and TLABS because aside from good growth, they are frequently the vehicles that larger companies use to cement 'gorillaship', as in LU's purchase of ASND.

But I'm just a pussycat, and my thoughts will be ignored (sniff!).

TTFN,
CTC
