Scumbria, I think that the scenario painted by Fiondella is already possible today even without CPU ID. I have a friend who heads up MIS at one of the major companies. The MIS can already track Internet usage of every Internet user in the company. They can find out every site you visited. They are just destroying the records to prevent arousing ACLU and other civil libertarian groups.

A lot of sites require you to to enter your E-Mail Address and Password before they allow access. How is entering your Computer ID any different ?

Your management already tracks your telephone usage through the telephone bill. They know whom you have been calling and how much time you spend talking to your broker.

I am sure that Silicon Investor can keep track of the time you spend on their site. I am sure that your employer can chart your usage of the Internet and how much of your time is spent on Silicon Investor [ despite your pseudonym ].

How does entering the Computer ID change anything ?
