Fair enough, Lynn. But it's the way that Compaq has handled this that creates the anger and uncertainty.

The only positive clue is this from EPs statement:

"...enables us to unlock the tremendous value of AltaVista for our shareholders."

Obviously one of Alex Brown's best clients getting a 5,000 share block at the initial offering price does nothing for me or any other CPQ holder.

Lets not jump the gun and start hounding CPQ before they have even had the opportunity to tell shareholders--and everyone else--how they plan to take AV public.

Good point. Digital made this same big splash announcement about spinning off AltaVista a couple of years ago but then the wiser minds prevailed and they cancelled the plan.
