We are still in the $48-52 band slightly before or after earnings. The internet story was not a blockbuster. So we are back to considering earnings. It has been tempting to sell and run all day. But certain people on this thread act as contrary indicators for me, they have been jittery all day, so I'll stick with CPQ. But the main persuasive factor for me was the strength of the general market towards the close and the role the large techs have played today in changing market sentiment. If this continues tomorrow, it will help the market interpret CPQ's results in a more benign perspective or at least a less harsh light than might have been the case on Monday. I have not seen any indications today that CPQ will not make good numbers. EP said in his interview in response to a question about the effectiveness of the internet buttons on the Presarios, that the Presarios have been taking market share this last quarter. In the conference he said that the CPQ-DEC has slightly exceeded its target. These are crumbs, I know - but they are not negative. My bet right now is that we will get to the $52 on a spike tomorrow or on Friday after the analysts meeting. But I am prepared to pull the trigger tomorrow if it reaches $52. All this changes if there are blowout earnings numbers - 0.44 or more. In that case, the second band comes into operation $53-58. But so far I have not seen any fresh indications that this will be activated. (As an artistic gesture I put in a sell order this morning for $58).
