Dear Enam: There is no adequate substitute for perusing wave.com but here is my partial understanding of the system. The "device" resides on the client side. WaveEnabled content is wrapped in an .SMO (self-merchandising object -- I think of it as "digital shrinkwrap" that can be reclosed). Content can reach the user online, but the user need not remain online once he has it. The client-side system can manage the rights on both sides of the wrapper locally. The WaveNet squares accounts periodically when the user goes online (if for no other reason than to replenish her WaveAccount). Content also can reach the user over the air or, for that matter, on physical media (for example, a CD or DVD in snail mail). When a person uses a WaveEnabled DVD she unwraps the .SMO with her EMBASSY and taps her WaveAccount. When she gives the same DVD to her neighbor, it remains enveloped by the .SMO and her neighbor unwraps it with his EMBASSY and taps his WaveAccount. I believe this system can be applied to any digital content on any platform, however it may get there. The implications for digital data broadcasting to set-top boxes with large hard disks are breathtaking. And emerging broadbands -- fat pipes -- only make it more attractive. Best wishes.
