Just my own estimate: In early December, they had 14M: Gorilla Warfare Abstracted from Interactive Week 12/07/98 America Online, with its 14 mil subscribers, has such a bright future that investors have given it a market value in the neighborhood of $40 mil, which is more than twice its value when AT&T Corp attempted to buy it earlier this year. In early January, they had 15M: America Online passes milestone Abstracted from New York Times 01/01/99 America Online Inc reports its number of users around the world has exceeded 15 mil. That is a current rate of 1M per month. Granted, they had a super December, with the You've Got Mail movie and the latest mailings of 4.0 discs, but that is their current rate. I have heard rumors that the current number might be closing in on 17M, although I have not had any verification.
