Imation Corp. (NYSE:IMN), announced that preliminary results for the
quarter ending December 31, 1998 indicate that pre-tax operating results will
likely fall in a range near break even. This preliminary estimate does not
include a net gain the company will recognize in the quarter resulting from
the previously announced sale of its medical imaging business to Eastman
Kodak Company (NYSE: EK) for $520 million.
Company officials indicated that operating results for the quarter were
impacted by several factors including a higher than anticipated seasonal market
slowdown in its photo and printing and publishing businesses. The company also
continued to make investments in newer offerings in data storage, digital color
proofing and solutions. In addition, the transfer of the medical imaging
business effective November 30, 1998, resulted in one month's operating profit
from medical imaging business being transferred to Kodak.
Imation Corp., Oakdale, Minn., supplies a variety of products
and services worldwide for the information and image management industry.
