Here is a humble question from a former Compaq follower:
If one wants to buy alta vista shares, what is the best (cheapest) way to go about it?
1. buy compaq now and hope the share ratio is fair
2. buy compaq after earnings hoping for disappointment and lower cost
3. wait for IPO and buy at market

My humble answers:
1. Buying CPQ is not a bad idea.
2. You have to buy after earnings if you are in the US. Announcement is tomorrow before opening bell.
3. It's too early to tell. General feeling is IPO or spin off will be about this time next year. We will have recovered from our happy 2000 New Year's party, and dealing with Y2k bug failures. <g>
