tom,

are you familiar with back orifice (BO)? it was publicly released by the cult of the dead cow on august 3, 1998, and has reportedly been downloaded by well over 100,000 people since then. here's an informative site about it

ozemail.com.au

i was concerned about activity on my pc, so i engaged some of the basic desktop tools they discuss...

including looking for a file named WINDLL.DLL in the windows\system directory (because BO invariably places that file there every time it runs), and searching windows registry for a telltale BO v1.2 entry.

happily, i did not discover any traces of back orifice.

anyway, i just came across this info today and thought of your previous post. perhaps this helps.
