Complete speculation of course - but could it have to do with short covering driving up demand for real TDFX stock instead of "synthetic" STBI/TDFX?

In any case, on the dips, I've been loading up on STBI and plan on selling some of the converted shares in March (or slightly before).

If one decides to hold STBI into the merger - what are the tax implications? For example, if I bought at $7.50 and the merger takes place with TDFX at $20 - will my new cost basis be TDFX @ $20 (wishful thinking) or ($7.50/.65)=$11.538? Or what? I can't figure it out... Thanks.
