Well, er, I *am* a "buy and hold" kinda guy. My profile lists those stocks I've bought and held. Of those, only AOL is recent (I bought last October). Perhaps that's why my GTC orders have worked for me. I have tried to be a little ahead of the curve on growth trends and buy several stocks in a given industry group after doing a lot of reading and analysis. If I've done my homework properly, at least one of my picks will prove to be a long-term keeper. I dump the others. Sometimes I dump the whole industry group (disk drives, for example).

What I didn't make clear was that there are times when I simply can't watch the market. It's not a matter of training.

I joined SI to have exactly the kinds of discussions I've been having. It really cuts down on the amount of work any one of us has to do in analyzing and picking stocks. What you wrote tells me that it's probably not in my best interest to try the short-term strategies I've been considering, at least until things change.
